Transforming Healthcare Through Information Technology
The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) of 2009 provides a reimbursement incentive for healthcare providers and hospitals that adopt and deploy Electronic Health Record (EHR) solutions. Over the period of 2011 thru 2015, individual providers can receive between $44K and $60K in incentive payments. Similarly, hospitals can receive between $2.0M and $11.0M in additional payments, depending on the mix of patients they serve and the number of beds they provide.
Healthcare providers are eligible for these incentives as long as they make “Meaningful Use” of EHR technology and use “certified” EHR applications. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have published the definition of Meaningful Use that providers and hospitals will have to meet to receive their incentive payments.
